Drobo goes NAS
When I first saw Data Robotics’ product video of Drobo it sure looked impressive. I really liked its ability for hot-swapping disks and transparent utilization of different size drives.
However, it was a USB 2.0 drive, not network attached. I was thinking something like an NSLU2 might serve as a head unit fronting the USB drive, although the NSLU2 has only a Fast Ethernet network interface on it.![]()
But now you can get the Data Robotics DroboShare, the ideal clip-on companion to the Drobo, providing Gigabit Ethernet access to your data over the network. I also like the fact that DroboShare has a pair of USB ports into which you plug one or two laden Drobos and they’ll both auto-aggregate into a truly colossal space.
Once my TeraStation fills up I think the Drobo and DroboShare will be on my wish list.
